Tinea cruris, commonly known as jock itch, is an infection caused by fungi that is normally found in an individual’s skin. This type of fungi, the Trichophyton rubrum, breeds in moist areas of the skin like the groin. Thus, if a person is athletic, or sweats a lot, then there is a big possibility that when he is not hygienic, he may have jock itch.
In treating jock itch, a person should be well aware on how he will be able to keep his body clean and dry. Since fungi may breed in moist areas, these areas of the body like the groin should be kept clean and dry. An athlete should take a shower after the strenuous activity so that the sweat would be eliminated and fungi would not be formed.
The clothing of a person must also be kept clean at all times by laundering it often. It should also be dry so that bacteria, fungi and other micro organisms would not live in it. Also, it would be best to use soft materials for the garments and those that are breathable. This is important so that the skin would be kept dry and a person may have his skin fungi free.
Lastly, a person may also choose to use over the counter creams and powder to cure the fungal infection. But keeping it clean and dry would be a better first step. The fungi affect the top layer of the skin so the cream would normally treat it. These medications may need a prescription from a doctor so it would be best to consult first a doctor and ask for a prescription for the skin disease.
