You know you have jock itch when you suddenly feel scratchy around your genitals, particularly the groin area that can spread to the insides of your thighs, and in some cases to the testicles (rarely though).  You will also notice a red swelling lump about half-an-inch or other sores that may appear in no particular shape or figure.

Other areas of the body that are most likely to be infected with jock itch are the skin folds or creases, and buttocks.  A person affected by jock itch will usually feel a burning itchy sensation that is accompanied occasionally by abrasions or lesions with bumpy edges. The area affected may have spot-like border around a dry central area that is reddish brown in color with tiny scab, scales, or bumps.

To help you identify jock-itch, use the following checklist:

1.     Do you have an elevated red rash in your groin, inner and upper thighs?

2.     Where you see an elevated red rash, do you feel the need to scratch the area die to itch?

3.     Do you see peeling or scaling of your skin in your groin area?  Is the peeling and scaling on the red rash with sharp borders that is accompanied by tiny pimples?

If you have answered yes to all these, then you have jock itch.  For any other accompanying sores, fissures, or rashes, you have to consult your skin doctor as these may be symptoms of other fungal infection.
