Jock itch the name has been derived from the person who sweats more like athletes. Jock itch is basically a fungal disease, which mainly infects the groin and upper thigh area. The fungus attacks during hot and humid conditions and infect the skin. Usually groin and upper thigh region are moist and warm so micro organisms grow fast and multiply within no time.

Micro organisms always stay in body but infects only when they get proper conditions to grow and multiply. The fungal attack on the skin mainly leads to lots of itching which sometimes become irresistible.


Symptoms of Jock Itch

• Circular, red or brown rash, chafed and raise around groin area indicates that the infection has started. These rashes are usually clearly defined edges and are scaly and painful.
• Another symptom is a lot of itching in the groin, buttock and upper thigh area. Moreover, itching does not stop but aggravates and the more you scratch the more it itch.
• Peeling or flaking of dead skin around the groin area points out that you are a victim of Jock itch.

Diagnosis
KOH examination is also carried out to inspect the attack of fungal infection. Doctor takes skin samples of scraping from the fungal infected area and examines them under microscope. If fungus is visible in the sample it means patient is suffering from the infection. In case there is no fungus in the examined sample but the doctor still suspect infection then a test known as culture is being carried out in the lab.
